Vegas

We approached Las Vegas through the back door, the Northshore Road that led us south in parallel with Lake Mead through beautiful landscapes with muted colours and sparse vegetation.

And then we hit the city with startling abruptness. One footstep could take you from city to desert.

After four weeks in National Parks and other natural worlds I was in sensory overload when we explored The Strip, Las Vegas Blvd. First we walked it at night then went back next day in the afternoon.

All is glitter and glitz.
Fountains of Bellagio Resort

The Conservatory, Bellagio Resort - a beautiful garden that must cost millions to maintain. These ladybird beetles were made with fresh flowers every day. And they had Brachychiton Bottle Trees on the perimeter!
Monet's Cap Martin, near Menton rendered in fresh flowers
In the Fine Art Gallery of the Bellagio they had an exhibition of Monet paintings. That was a delightful quiet space in the middle of all the over-the-top opulence and sleaze. And in the conservatory they had a fresh-flower replica of one of Monet's paintings!

As usual, click on any photo to view large.
